April 20th, aka 4/20. It’s also known as “Weed Day,” a day devoted to all things marijuana. But you don’t have to be a smoker to get into the spirit of 4/20. These stoner-themed movies and TV shows will keep you highly entertained, no matter where you fall on the “pot spectrum.”
- For a toke of stoner wisdom: “The Big Lebowski” - Jeff Bridges as The Dude leads an all-star cast including John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Steve Buscemi.
- To have your mind completely blown: “Annihilation” - This 2018 thriller starring Natalie Portman might leave you feeling high without ever touching the stuff.
- If you miss getting high with your friends: “Broad City” - Live vicariously through Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson while they smoke a bowl and have adventures in New York City.
- A classic to enjoy your chronic: “Up In Smoke” - Cheech and Chong’s 1978 weed caper is one of the original pot comedies.
- For a marathon 4/20 celebration: “That ‘70s Show” - Eight seasons of teenage basement antics should do it.
- If Sean Penn will always be Spicoli to you: “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” - Before he was a serious Oscar-winning actor, he was stoned surfer Jeff Spicoli in this 1982 teen comedy.
- A bromantic bud comedy: “Pineapple Express” - Seth Rogen and James Franco will have you cracking up in this 2008 stoner comedy.
- To learn something about the universe while getting high: “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” - Neil deGrasse Tyson drops some knowledge about the mysteries of the galaxy.
- To feel alright, alright, alright: “Dazed and Confused” - Go back to the 1970s with Matthew McConaughey as the ultimate stoner in this 1993 comedy about the last day of school.
- For those who still quote “Chappelle’s Show” regularly: “Half Baked” - Before Dave Chappelle had his own show, he starred in this 1998 pot-filled comedy.
- Where the phrase “Bye, Felicia” came from: “Friday” - Chris Tucker and Ice Cube try to find a way to pay their dealer in this 1995 classic.
- To watch while you satisfy your munchies: “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle” - They’re craving a bag of sliders and they go on an epic quest to get them.
